254 SMO has molybdenum and nitrogen in its alloy. This austenitic stainless steel shows very high resistance to crevice and surface corrosion. The 254 smo plate is a cost-effective substitute for any high nickel and titanium alloys. The material is tough to machine due to high sulfur content and it also has a high work hardening rate. The UNS S31254 plate shows high impact toughness and is resistant to pitting and chloride ion related stress corrosion cracking. It has twice the strength of what is possessed by 300 series stainless steel.
The ASTM A240 UNS S31254 plate can be welded using filler material like AWS A5.14 ERNiCrMo-3 or it can lead to poor strength properties. SA 240 S31254 can be annealed within the temperature range of 1149-1204 °C after which they should be water quenched. Due to all these properties, the A240 S31254 plates can be used in applications like salt water handling, flue gas desulphurization scrubbers, heat exchangers, etc.
The S31254 plate shows good resistance to corrosion in various aggressive environments. They can resist pitting, crevice corrosion and also chloride ion related stress corrosion cracking. However, SA 240 UNS S31254 plate can get rust if exposed to unfavorable operating conditions based on temperatures, pH levels, concentration of the corrosive agents, etc.

Heat input is the amount of thermal energy transferred to the ASTM A240 S31254 material during welding. Generally, it has low thermal conductivity and high thermal expansion, which means they should be welded carefully. The recommended heat input of 254 smo sheet is <1.5 kJ/mm and interpass temperature is <100 °C.

The 1.4547 plate is quite expensive, given its chemical composition and mechanical properties. However, the exact price can vary with the 254 Smo Plate Suppliers, their internal costs and market conditions. The purchase price can also change with the quantity ordered, custom requirements, size & dimensions and delivery location. If you are looking for high quality 6mo Plate at a competitive rate, contact Regent Steel & Engineering Co.
The 254 Smo Steel Plate material has high chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen content, which can influence its weldability. It is crucial to select the right welding technique to ensure the integrity of the plate’s weld joint. The commonly used processes are gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc and shielded metal arc welding. It is crucial to maintain the right interpass temperature to avoid excess heat buildup during multi-pass welding.
