A duplex 2205 pipe is a pipe which is treated under specific temperature and extinguishing conditions. This pipe has higher contents of chromium (22%), 5-6% Nickel, and 3 % of molybdenum, making it useful for seawater environment conditions. To provides protection against crevice collisions, chromium plays a role of a skin to the base metal and also ensures that no collisions occur
. It also ensures protection from oxidation and overcome acidic conditions easily. It comprises 550 MPa yield strength, higher tensile strength ranging between 500-800 MPa, and this is considered to be much higher when brought in comparison to alloy pipes. It promises resistance to corrosions. It has huge demand in market when it comes down to performance.
Numerous advantages are delivered by a 2205 pipe. Due to its composition, its ability to promise excessive corrosions of any form, be it oxidized or normal corrosion, it provides several advantages to any company which chooses this product. Below are some listed advantages:
Duplex 2205 tube
2205 duplex stainless steel pipe
Duplex 2205 seamless pipe
duplex 2205 tube has tensile strength value of 90 (ksi), 65 ksi 0.2% yield strength, 25 % elongation and 217 HB Max hardness. Due to this it exhibits some strong physical properties, weighing 0.278 ibm/in3 at 68-° F. It is this hardness which makes it prone to withstand extreme conditions and prevent corrosions.

Although 2205 duplex stainless steel pipe can withstand extreme conditions, but not more extreme if brought into environments where temperature exceeds 300 ° C. This material is ideal only in environments where temperature is lower than 300 ° C, which is 572-° F, to avoid embrittlement.
Hence, common use case of duplex 2205 stainless steel pipe is found in industries such as Sea water, Chemical processing, petrochemicals, biogas, mining, etc, where such areas have guaranteed corrosive environments present. It is also not recommended in use for environments below -50 ° C.
Both 2205 stainless steel pipe and 316 offer their own unique features, but are very apart from each other starting from their very composition. 316 contains higher amount of Nickel and Molybdenum contents, providing a super prominent corrosion resistance. Pipe 2205, on the other hand, has higher amounts of chromium, manganese and nitrogen, which provides high strength. 316 offers more corrosion resistance properties as well as in saltwater or acidic environments, making them an ideal use case for food processing industries.
In fact, 2205 grade pipes is mainly useful in high-chlorine environments, to prevent crevice collisions. When it comes to weldability, duplex 2205 seamless pipe tends to be more weldable because it contains lower percentage contents of Nickel and Molybdenum and also very low chances of cracking risks during the process of fusion welding. Pipe 2205 duplex, also do not require preheating prior to welding.
There are many properties that 2205 tubing provides an ideal case. Best known to provide corrosion resistance, following are some major properties of this material:
