Manufacturing process of Inconel rod
  • The inconel material is melted in an electric arc furnace, which ensures homogeneity and proper alloying of the elements.
  • The molten alloy is then cast into the desired shape followed by heat treatment procedures like annealing. This helps to relieve mechanical stress and enhance the mechanical properties.
  • Inconel rod production process might also involve hot working like extrusion or rolling. This is followed by cold drawing which improves the tensile strength and dimensional accuracy of the rods.
  • The rods are finally cut and given the desired finish as per the specific application requirements.

Can you weld inconel to stainless steel ?

In nuclear power facilities, welding between more expensive Inconel and less expensive stainless steel works well. Welding these materials together is difficult due to their differences in chemical composition, melting point, mechanical, thermal, and other qualities.

Welding Inconel to Inconel and to other dissimilar metals, such as stainless steel, is accomplished with Inconel Filler Metal 625 rod. Weldments made of inconel have a high strength and a strong resistance to oxidation and corrosion
