Inconel round bar
What is Inconel round bar ?

Inconel is a superalloy that primarily has nickel and chromium in its chemical composition. The inconel round bar is recommended for environments with a lot of moisture. Apart from resisting corrosion and oxidation, the alloy can also withstand pressure and heat in extreme conditions.

This is why the material is used as critical components in jet engines or the aerospace industry. When heat is applied to the material, a thick and protective oxide layer forms on the surface which protects it from further attack.

Inconel round stock also offers excellent mechanical properties like higher tensile strength compared to standard stainless steel alloys. They also possess high strength and durability which makes them suitable for various indoor and outdoor uses.

You can contact Regent Steel & Engineering Co., a reputed inconel alloy round bar supplier in India. Here, you can get customized and high quality round bars at competitive prices along with timely delivery.

How are Inconel rod made?
  • The inconel material is melted in an electric arc furnace, which ensures homogeneity and proper alloying of the elements.
  • The molten alloy is then cast into the desired shape followed by heat treatment procedures like annealing. This helps to relieve mechanical stress and enhance the mechanical properties.
  • Inconel rod production process might also involve hot working like extrusion or rolling. This is followed by cold drawing which improves the tensile strength and dimensional accuracy of the rods.
  • The rods are finally cut and given the desired finish as per the specific application requirements.

What are the welding and machining techniques for Inconel flat bar?

Common welding techniques like GTAW and GMAW are suggested for inconel flat bars. During the procedure, make sure to use the right filler material and high purity argon as shielding gas. For machining, high speed steel or carbide tools with sharp edges must be used.

The cutting speed must be controlled as inconel tends to work harden quickly. The feed rate should be rightly adjusted to maintain a consistent chip load and prevent excessive tool wear. You can employ techniques like climb milling and peck drilling for hole machining.

How Inconel hot-rolled and cold-drawn round bar differs with each other ?
  • Inconel Round Bar Manufacturer In India produces hot rolled bars by heating a large billet to a high temperature and then passing it through rollers. Cold drawn bars are produced by pulling annealed round bars through a series of dies at room temperature.
  • Inconel alloy cold drawn bars have a smoother surface finish than hot rolled ones.
  • Cold drawn bars have a finer and uniform grain structure due to controlled deformation at lower temperature conditions.
  • Cold drawn inconel square bars have tighter dimensional tolerance and exhibit improved mechanical properties.
top 3 precautions should be taken when working with Inconel round
  • When working with inconel rounds, always wear personal protective equipment. Apart from protective clothes, you should also get protective eye gear, masks, etc, to keep away from metal chips, sparks generated during the production process.
  • The workplace must be ventilated properly to manage fumes, dust, etc.
  • The right tools and equipment must be used to ensure safety and precision.
