Monel 400 is an alloy of nickel and copper that exhibits high strength and resistance to acidic & alkaline environments. The Monel 400 plate shows good thermal conductivity and ductility. They can be ideally used in temperatures ranging from subzero to 538 °C. This high performance alloy shows good resistance to chloride ion related stress corrosion cracking. They are hardenable by the cold working process. They exhibit slightly magnetic properties at room temperature.
The 2.4360 plate can be used in brackish or seawater. They are also found in brine heaters and different equipment used in the marine environment. Monel 400 can resist sulfuric and hydrofluoric acids. They can resist elevated temperatures without altering the mechanical properties and are hence used in heat exchangers.
Monel 400 sheet can be welded using standard procedures like gas tungsten arc, shielded metal arc, etc. Monel 400 sheet suppliers suggest that the material does not need any post welding heat treatment. ERNiCu-7 is the most widely used filler metal for alloy 400. It is designated as UNS N04060 and popularly known as Monel 60. It comes with a nominal composition of 65% Ni, 30% Cu, 3% Mn and 2% Ti.

To recognize Monel 400 strips, you should note the following:
Monel 400 is a premium alloy due to its chemical composition. It has at least 63% nickel, 29-34% copper, around 2-2.5% iron and 1.5-2% manganese in its alloy. They are quite expensive metals and thus, the price of alloy 400 is on the higher side.
The maximum working temperature of UNS N04400 plate depends on the type of corrosive media and duration of exposure. They can operate at a temperature up to 538 °C in oxidizing and 982 °C in reducing conditions.
The alloy 400 sheet is non-magnetic in both annealed and cold worked conditions. They have low magnetic permeability and can be used in applications where magnetic interference is an issue.
