What is Super duplex pipe ?

Super duplex material comes with additional strength benefits along with the features of standard duplex ss. The dual phase microstructure makes it stronger and enhances its corrosion resistance. The super duplex pipe has a higher nickel content and thus, it is quite expensive.

The material can resist acids, chloride and caustic solutions. They offer better resistance to stress corrosion cracking and mechanical resistance than other standard ss or duplex alloys.

The super duplex steel pipe shows good mechanical properties like tensile strength of 795 MPa and yield strength of 550 MPa. It can be manufactured using different processes like cold pilgering, extrusion, tube mill and piercing. This should be followed by a heat treatment and mechanical testing.

The super duplex pipe suppliers recommend forging within 1100-1250 °C. This is followed by a reheat process and then the material is cooled down in still air.

Is super duplex seamless pipe heat treatable?

Heat treatment of the super duplex seamless pipe is generally limited to solution annealing. It helps to restore the microstructure and properties of the material after hot forming. The process helps to dissolve and homogenize any precipitated phases along with improving its mechanical properties, toughness and corrosion resistance.
